Get Creative - Illustration Competition

With lockdown measures looking to continue for quite some time, here at Fleur of England we've been looking at ways to stay inspired at home; keeping our creative sparks alive whilst coming up with exciting new projects to keep ourselves busy.

With that in mind, we're excited to launch our first ever illustration competition! The rules are simple:

1) Create an illustration inspired by our Signature lingerie collections.

2) Share it with us either on Instagram by tagging us and using the #mylingerieisart, or by email on info@fleurofengland.com using the subject line 'Illustration Competition'.

Three lucky winners will be chosen and will each receive a Signature lingerie set of their choosing. This is a chance to really let your creativity shine. You can use any media you like, the more creative the better!

Take a look at our Signature collections here or our Pinterest board here to get inspired. Please share with others who you think would like to enter.

Good Luck!

To help inspire you, we've spoken to designer and creative director Fleur to get her top tips on how she starts sketching a design.

1.What are the first steps you take when designing/illustrating your collections?

I think each designer works in a different way. Some designers don’t need to illustrate their collection, they just interpret the ideas in their heads. I design my collections quite quickly, but it's the research/interpretation of the story in my head that takes the time. Designing is a fast process for me as the mind re-imagines small changes to get the design just right.

After I have designed something that's when I may take more time to illustrate it (but not everything). I am by no means an illustrator but I love being creative, its a huge part of who I am am and what I love to do.
2. What part of a collection would you illustrate and why?
I love details so it would be an embroidery or lace, I love delicate fabrics and how they look on skin. The beauty of illustration is that you can pick and choose your medium and its up to the individuals interpretation a brush stroke could mean so much, a few dots can become lace.

3. Is it important to you to keep using traditional techniques and not make everything digital?
Digital is the future and I am keen to learn, but for now I am sticking with my beloved water colours, my paints were the first present my husband gave to me many years ago.
4. What are you favourite medias to use when Illustrating?
I love using water colours and fine liners, I have been experimenting with these more during the lock down, I have been making cards for my family who I cant see.
5. Where do you get inspiration from for your illustrations?
There is so much inspiration online but I also attend art workshops class and the RWA which is a short walk from my house in Bristol, the work shops keep my eye and keep my work fluid.
6. What happens next in the design process after illustrations?
For me being able to illustrate part of my collection is quite indulgent, I don’t usually have the time, as I am juggling so many things running a business, but if I do its the last part of the process.
7. How easy are you finding it to be creative in lock down?
Its a tough one, I am working and home schooling so there isn’t much time especially when the cooking and cleaning also needs to be done.
When I do get “some alone time, as we call it our busy house” I sneak off to our small garden and get my paints out! Thank goodness for the beautiful weather we have had.
I am so excited to see very bodies illustration of our signature collections to see their interpretations.
